Find a a roller girl and ask her what she likes or doesn't like about the equipment she bought.
Many of the CORDA girls like Triple 8 and Pro-Tec protective gear and Riedell skates.

Knee pads and elbow pads can be purchased separately or in a combo pack.  Get knee pads that can be removed without taking off your skates.

Cut off socks worn under the wrist guards will make them more comfortable.
